The only moderate conference resort, with a south-west theme – the hotel is undergoing renovation over the next few years.
The location of Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort is located in the Disney’s Animal Kingdom area. The Animal Kingdom is the closest of the main parks. Blizzard Beach (Water Park) is also really close.
Theming of Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
The theme for this hotel is the ‘SouthWest’ which extends throughout the resort – expect to see Spanish styling and the three amigos.
Coronado Springs is also a convention centre – the only moderate resort to be so. This means there are often business-types staying there as well as your typical holiday-makers. This can be advantageous – if there is a conference on, the pools tend to be less busy and there are less children around. On the other hand, some feel it takes away from the magic of the place. Most wouldn’t really notice the difference.
Rooms at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
- This resort has 1917 rooms, situated in 3 ‘villages’; the Casitas, the Cabanas and the Ranchos.
- The rooms all have either 2 queen sized beds or 1 King.
- Unlike the other moderates, there is only has 1 sink in the bathroom, but it has a wooden screen to separate the sink area from the rest of the room. Other moderates have curtains but in both instances, the bath/shower and toilet are in a separate room with a door.
- The rooms are situated around a 15 acre lake, Lake Dorado.
- Free wifi.
There is a combination of room options available – most views are available with the different room types:
Standard view – views of courtyard or parking lots
Water view – you could have a beautiful view of Lake Dorado. Or you could be looking at one of the swimming pools.
As you don’t have a balcony, you spend very little time seeing the view – only when you’re coming or going. So a view upgrade is only worth it if the view is really important to you – if a view of a car park would ruin your holiday, you might want to secure a better view by paying for it.
King rooms – have a King bed instead of two queen beds. The view can be either standard or water view and a preferred room location is also an option (see below).
Preferred rooms – these are located close to El Centro. It is Disney’s way of you paying a premium to be located in the rooms closest to the food court and central bus depot. The view can be either standard or water view.
There are also numerous sized suites available, each offering increased floor space. These can sleep extra people (up to 6 adults, depending on the selection) and have a separate living space (used for sleeping if at maximum capacity).
Dining at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
Counter Service and Snacks
The Food court here is the Pepper Market. It works slightly differently to other counter service food courts as you are seated at a specific table and have a ticket which is stamped when you choose your food at the various stations, and then you pay (with tip) on the way out. This is quite polarising in opinion – many think it is the best food court as it gives you more of a restaurant type feel for counter service prices. However, it is not as easy to nip in and out as most counter service options. And many UK guests find the normal level of tipping to be very high, in comparison to the UK, and question it particularly here, where they are solely being seated and tables cleared.
Cafe Rix is a quick-stop spot selling refreshments – handy to grab and go in the mornings
Siesta’s Pool Bar
Laguna Pool Bar
Table Service Restaurants
Maya Grill – generally poor reviews, there are definitely better places to eat within Walt Disney World.Las Ventanas
Las Ventanas – serving only breakfast and dinner. It is quite tucked away, near the Convention Centre, and doesn’t accept reservations.
Recreation at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
- The Dig Site, a popular pool featuring a water slide down a Myian Temple.
- There’s also a children’s pool, spitting statue and the largest outdoor hot tub on property for 22 people
- There are 3 smaller ‘quiet pools’ scattered around the property
- A children’s Explorer’s Playground
- Marina with pedal boat and electric boat rentals (seasonal)
- Bike hire
- Iguana Arcade
- La Vida Health Club
Transport to and from Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort
There are 4 bus stops for this resort. The advantage to this is that you don’t have to walk to the main entrance to get a bus to the parks. But it does mean up to 4 stops before you leave/ when you arrive back from the parks.
